Japanese beetle

North Carolina

One of the lessons learned in photography is to look at an everyday object or scene in a manner different from everyone else.  Japanese beetles tend to be flying pests in the summer and not welcome.  This beetle was resting in a meadow in North Carolina and was still trying to warm up after the night.  The soft morning light allows the iridescence of the carapace to shine with a jewel like appearance. Perhaps the lesson here is to look beyond the physical limitations of an individual and to see the whole of the person.  This is the only image in the exhibit that was taken prior to my diagnosis.
